‘Are you sure no one else can see it?’ asked Mina, staring dubiously at her hand.

‘Anyone with the Sight can see it. That’s the whole point of having the Morrigan’s blessing, love. No one else will see a thing. You can only see it because she allowed you to.’ I paused.

She lifted her hand and tilted it in the light of the downstairs cloakroom. ‘Hmm.’

At some point, up there on the spongy grass mound while we were consummating our greenwood marriage, those bands of twisted stems and flowers had merged into our fingers, leaving us with the feint green mark we’d carry for the rest of our days. When we returned to Midgard, Mina had needed to get changed, and I’d been for a smoke. Fag finished, I’d found her combing her hair and staring at her finger.

Her brain was slowly coming back online. ‘If everyone with the Sight can see it, they must know what we’ve been doing all this time!’

I coughed. ‘Well, even if they don’t have the Sight – like Tom and Anika, for example – I’m sure Myfanwy will have told them exactly what we were doing, possibly with page references to the Kama Sutra. You know what she’s like.’

Mina closed her eyes and sighed. Then she grinned, fluttered her eyelashes at me and held out her hand. ‘Let’s party.’
